This concert will be a meeting of worlds of sound and music. Nour Sokhon, a sound artist from Beirut living in Berlin, will present a solo set that is shaped by an ongoing project around grief and remembrance. Aidan Baker and Stefan Christoff will build off the recording of a duet album last winter, out in 2024 on Time Released Sound. For this concert they will be joined by Andy Aquarius.

This event is about creating space to listen together and also to build community connections that celebrate the power of sound to both travel across borders and challenge the ways that borders limit our understanding of human possibilities in this era of immense change.

Andy Aquarius is a sonic alchemist and devotee of mystical folklore. “Being a multi-instrumentalist and exploring a wide range of genres, he laid out the path ahead with his debut album ‘Chapel’, which only features his Celtic harp and voice. The record takes you on a ‘transcendental journey through the outer realms of ambient, classical, new age, and folk music.” –– Alex Ruder, Hush Hush/KEXP. Andy’s live performances are of a peaceful simplicity and thick atmosphere, putting all the intent towards a sincere delivery of his bucolic canticles and meandering instrumentals. https://www.andyaquarius.com

Aidan Baker is a Canadian musician living in Berlin making ambient/experimental/slowcore music, both solo & with such groups as Nadja, Hypnodrone Ensemble, & WERL. https://aidanbaker.bandcamp.com

Stefan helps to coordinate Musicians for Palestine and makes music with many people globally, including Rêves sonores, Sam Shalabi, Lori Goldston, Adriana Camancho, and Anarchist Mountains. Stefan is on the board of the Immigrant Workers Centre in Côte-Des-Neiges and works with Cinema Politica Network. Stefan is working with the Social Justice Centre at Concordia University.

Nour Sokhon is a Lebanese artist based between Beirut, Lebanon and Berlin, Germany. Her creative practice is centered around exploring different methods of working with artistic research including interview material, field recordings and recorded material from an organized site specific intervention. The research is then translated into sound/music compositions, performances, interactive installations and moving image work. https://www.noursokhon.com
